The type of project you have, the machinery you use, and the location of construction/heavy lifting are all factors in choosing the most effective mat for your task. Before even deciding the size of mat you need, you first need to determine the actual material and type of mat you need.
If you need mats to stabilize large track equipment, then you want TIMBER MATS.
Timber, also referred to as lumber, is the term used to describe wood that has been shaped into beams and planks. Timber is produced early on in the wood production process. The wood is no longer a log, but it is also close to being a manufactured, finished product. Most timber mats are made from softwoods (pine, fir, etc.), primarily because of their low cost.
If you need mats for lighter loads, temporary use, and are environmentally friendly, then you want LAMINATED MATS.
Laminated Mats weigh less than timber and rig mats, making them more convenient to move and repurpose in a small amount of time. While they aren’t designed to hold the weight of heavy machinery, laminated mats do have the strength to stand up to high traffic from rubber tires, making them an excellent choice for creating temporary roadways. Since laminated mats are not completely made from timber and are partially manufactured, they more sustainably produced than timber mats.
If you need mats to handle massive machinery in rugged terrains and want a more “state-of-the-art” solution, then you want RIG MATS.
Rig mats and oilfield mats are engineered to take on the largest of tasks. These mats are typically reinforced with steel and can turn even the most difficult terrains into safe, stable surfaces. Rig mats are built larger than composite or standard timber mats because they can handle the larger equipment.
After you choose the material of your mat, you will want to decide if you want to buy your mat new, used, or rent your mats instead. Be sure to take your budget, project timeframe, and grade quality into consideration.
